04.09.2015 – Coming together – Delfin Versammlung

Astrid’s  Eindrücke: Bei den Atlantischen Fleckendelfinen gab es heute mehrfach große Schulen zu sehen. War heute vielleicht ein besonderer “Delfin-Feiertag” zu dem sich viele Tiere versammelten? Wir konnten die Tiere bei ganz unterschiedlichen, sozialen Aktionen beobachten. Am Morgen beispielsweise bei der Jagd. Auf der Ribeira Brava Mittagstour sahen wir sicherlich mehr als 100 Fleckendelfine in einer weit verstreuten Gruppe versammelt. Viele Delfinkälber und Jungtiere absolvierten eine Art Sprungtraining. Herrlich zu sehen, wie hoch und in welch unterschiedlichen Varianten die Sprünge ausgeführt werden können. Auch Fortpflanzungsaktivitäten waren deutlich zu sehen. Am Abend konnten wir Pilotwale aus nächster Nähe betrachten und sogar hören. Einige Male erreichte uns eine Art Pfiff aus der blauen Tiefe. Die Pilotwale zogen ruhig und direkt neben unserem Boot. Ein majestätischer Anblick.

Astrid`s impressions: During the day, we saw several big schools of Atlantic spotted dolphins. Who knows, maybe today it was a special “dolphin-holiday” and a coming together of friends and family? We observed many social interactions, for example on the morning tour they first came closer in high jumps to join us for a moment. Very soon later, they started to hunt. During the middaytrip of Ribeira Brava, we saw at least 100 Atlantic spotted dolphins spread out wide in a big area. Many of the calfs and joung animals performed a kind of “jump-training”. Impressive performances. And again, within smaller groups, also the “reproduction-mode” was going on. At the evening tour we had Pilotwhales very close and hear their voices, calling each other or trying to comunicate with us. Another majestic moment at sea.
