We have days that are BIG, EXCITING and WILD, but to be honest, sometimes I prefer days like today. For all the rarities out there on the big, wide blue, theres something inherently beautiful about observing an animal within its natural habitat and range. Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and Corys shearwaters (Calonectris borealis) belong to Madeira, like puffins to Iceland or rainy weather to the British Isles. So when we go out and there are no breaching humpbacks, enigmatic beaked whales, or other cryptic rarities, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with the tour. Far from it. To me, it means everything’s okay; everything is where it’s meant to be, and we shouldn’t take that for granted.
