Today we went far, far out on the Ribeira Brava to see two interactive Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). A feat by our spotter Drumond, who sighted the two lonely animals so far from shore. To our surprise, on the way back, not far from the port, there was a school of Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). Both species are seasonal animals for us. While some prefer warmer waters (Atlantic spotted dolphins), which we call our summer dolphins, others have a preference for cooler waters (Common dolphins). The latter are our winter dolphins. At this time of the year as well as in summer there is a temporal overlap of both species in the waters of Madeira. Since both types are very interactive, this is of course a nice experience for our guests.
