Our team was anticipating strong western winds during the afternoon so we decided to make the most of our morning at sea onboard our Ribeira Brava and our Stenella. Our traditional boat braved the wavy Atlantic to meet a group of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) and Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus), while our snorkel team was set on providing all pur participants with an experience with spotted dolphins in the water.
While spotted dolphins happen to be one of the most interactive species you’ll ever meet out in the ocean, they do often set priorities when being approached by a boat. Todays animals were hunting ahead of the activity, which meant our snorkelers had to be patient to meet these charismatic animals. Once in the water, the large group of spotted briefly approached our guests before continuing their travels westward. The encounter was short but sweet; our guests appreciated our efforts and were thankful to have met these delightful and intelligent creatures in the water.
