Have you already taken the time to look at our teams’ profiles on the Lobosonda-website? Apart from introducing ourselves and explaining a bit about our lives and education, you’ll be able to read everyone’s favourite cetacean. You will notice that “Atlantic spotted dolphins” (Stenella frontalis) will be named again and again and again. If you were ever lucky enough to encounter them yourself in the wild, I am sure you will understand. Even though we see this species almost daily, they put a smile on the face of not only on our guests, but also our team. Small, acrobatic dolphins, often performing high leaps out of the water, almost always approaching the boats and swimming right at the bow, often occurring in large numbers of dozens of animals. Still, I am sure that everyone in our team had a hard time choosing their favourite whale species. What makes Madeira’s waters special is the mix, the diversity of species, the surprise that every day holds when we head out to the sea. It is mysterious masters of deep dives as Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) or rare species as Routh-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis) that you might have never heard of or imagined before, that enthral. Take a moment during your tour to look at your teams faces to notice how special eachspecies of them is for us as well.
How marvellous, which variety of species we encountered on our todays tours: Besides everybody’s darling, our Atlantic spotted dolphins, we observed Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), Risso’s dolphins (Grampus griseus), Rough-toothed dolphins, Pilot whales, and Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba). Did you already pick your favourite?
