During our whale watching tours, we are not just looking out for whales and dolphins. The ocean around Madeira is full of life, and we come across many interesting creatures, like crustaceans, squids, flying fishes, and sea birds. Today, we stopped along Madeira’s beautiful coast line, to show our guests crabs and sea snails living between the rocks. Every creature holds an interesting story.
On our tours, we always try to share our passion for our beautiful planet and all the wonders that lie beneath the blue waters of Madeiras waters. I love seeing whales and dolphins, but I am keenly aware that we wouldn’t be able to have whale watching tours, if it weren’t for healthy oceans and a healthy planet to support them.
Everything is interrelated in nature. It is one planet, one system, one ocean. For example, all life is interrelated in intricate food webs. At the basis of these food chains are plankton – the tiniest ocean animals. Plankton also produces up to 80 percent of the earth’s oxygen levels! Higher up in the food chain are fish like mackerel and tuna. We humans are thus also very much dependent on our oceans to live, eat and breathe.
And so, on our tours we hope to evoke a sense of appreciation and wonder from our guests, not just for the majestic cetaceans we see, but also for the wonders that the vast blue ocean holds. We currently know more about space than we do about our oceans! Time to get out there and go exploring…. We welcome you on board!
