You do it all—the safety talk, the warnings that sightings aren’t guaranteed, and prepping the guests raincoats because of strong north westerly winds. It can all feel a bit pointless on days like today where the weather is supposed to get so bad it prohibits any further tours. So one tour one shot, one opportunity as Eminem would say. Well sometimes that’s all you need. Both Stenella and Ribeira Brava had a world-class day. Starting slow with a peaceful group of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), we couldn’t predict what would happen next. Carlos phoned Daniel. He’d spotted a sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus)…and then another… and another. Two hours later, on our way home, Stenella was full of smiles and completely silent having sat quietly watching a group of 12 curious and relaxed sperm whales there was nothing more to say.
