Often our guests want to know how many marine mammals eat per day. Here are some facts:
Bottlenose dolphin = 7-10kg
Sperm whale = 900kg
Humpback whale = up to 1t and more
Blue whale = up to 3,5t
The amount of food baleen whales consume daily seems tremendous. But they feed only for 4-6 months a year, while they are in their feeding grounds. The excessive energy reserves are accumulated in their so-called blubber. During their migration and time in their winter habitats this reserves are going to be depleted.
We are on top of the food chain, but we are only a part of the major puzzle. The survival of many different species depends on our behavior. It is most important to understand to use our resources moderate and generously give back to nature.
